Sri Raghavendra Temple:- Temple is reknowned as Dakshina Mantralayam and is an abode of peace and simpleness and the beautiful image of Lord Raghavendra in the mandap opposite to the temple is also a must see. This temple is also famous for "Anna Prasanam" functions to the little childrenĥ. Goddess Bhagavathi is a beautiful part of this temple along with sanidanams for Ayyapan and Prasanna Vinayaka along with Navagrahas. Sri Guruvayur appan temple:- Beautiful temple in Kerala style and very close to the above two temples having the main deity Guruvayurappan almost similar to the Lord in Guruvayoor. Sri Lakshmi Haygreevar Temple:- Hayagreevar said to be the Lord of Knowledge and Learning, this temple which is very close to Varasidhi Vinayagar temple is one of rarest Haygreevar temples in Tamil NaduĤ. is said to be one of the oldest temples which had Kanchi Periyavar staying in the temple during his visits to Nanganallur.ģ. Varasidhi Vinayagar Temple:- Located at Ram Nagar 2nd Street. This is the 12th sraththam that Vijaya and I are performing in our house(s) in Chennai - we did 9 in Karpagam avenue,3rd street, two in 22nd Cross street at Besantnagar, this one at our own house at Kalakshetra avenue.I wanted the first topic of the year to be something really positive and motivating.and hence waited for 10 long days but much of the current affairs do not seem to be encouraging me to do so. Expenses 2712.00 We brothers gave blouse bits to our four sisters, Rajeswari, and Sudha. Thus the Sraththam of Amma went off well. We did the sraththam in the Hall and the new house has a large space since dining area is separated from the hall.Īfter resting for 2 hours, everyone started leaving by 3-30. Rajeswari helped Vijaya, Kalyani in serving. We two, Aditi, Padma, Prakash, Rajeswari, Saroja, Athimber, Sugavanam, Sudha, Darshini, Jayaraman, Kalyani, Vijay, Poornima ate. Vathiyar dakshinai was 250+250+400 this year, increased from last year's dakshinai.Īt 1-15 or so we ate.
After 2 hours, the Brahmanals had their lunch by 12-15 noon and the rituals got over by 1PM. I performed the Sraththam with participation from Sugavanam and Jayaraman. Sastrigal came by 10-00 and started the rites at 10-20. They were followed by other relatives.Įveryone - Vijaya, Saroja, Kalyani, Rajeswari were extremely busy in cooking and allied jobs. Jayaraman, Kalyani, Poornima were the first to arrive by 6-45. On 23rd, the day of Sraththam, we two got up by 4-15 AM and started the work. On 22nd evening, Vijaya and I cut vegetables. Except for blouse bits from Amudam Stores, we didn't do any other purchase from South Mada steet, Mylapore. This year too I missed the Mylapore ambience. On 23rd morning I purchased Vaazhai Ilai and Pushpam from North Mada Street Thiruvanmiyur. A day before the thithi, we purchased all the vegetables, fruits incl vaazhaipazham from Thiruvanmiyur market. Vijaya and I purchased the grocery items and Vaathiyar saamangal from Marthandam Stores, Lakshmipuram, Thiruvanmiyur. Varatti from a kadai near Marundeeswarar koil. All these years we were doing it in rented houses. This is the first ever sraththam that we are performing at our OWN house (Flat F2, No 3, Kalakshetra Avenue, 2nd Street, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai 41). This year (2011) amma's thithi came on Thursday, 23rd June. We three brothers (Sugavanam, Jayaraman, and self) perform the sraththams of our parents every year at Chennai our elder brother Sundaresan performs at Dapodi, Pune.Īmma's Thithi is Aani, Krishna Paksham, Ashtami.
